PHIL 355E

PHIL 355E (Cybersecurity Ethics) is one of the Principle Courses that I needed to take for my Cybersecurity Program. This course examines ethical issues relevant to computing and information technology, including privacy, freedom of speech and content control on the Internet, individual and social responsibility, cybersecurity, cybercrimes, social impact of computers and other digital technologies, and ethical obligations of IT professionals. By the end of this course, we gained a broad understanding of central issues in cyber ethics and the ways that fundamental ethical theories relate to these core issues.

Throughout the duration of this course, we are assigned to do a weekly discussion board where we analyze different articles that pertain to cyber ethics issues. There is also a writing assignment where we need to analyze an article or a story about Ethical Theories. Lastly, we are also assigned to write Case Analysis depending on our week’s module and we need to analyze the different articles that were given to us and relate this to an ethical theory that we wrote for our writing assignment.

One of my Case Analysis is about GDPR. To further understand GDPR, I created an infographic about GDPR.

For my Case Analysis, I argued that the United States should adopt something like Europe’s new privacy law which is the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) and I also argued that Consequentialism shows us that United States should follow Europe’s lead because if this legislation will be implemented correctly here in United States, consumers will appreciate the fact that they will now have the ability to control their own personal data. This means that the consequence of this action will increase the amount of good in the world and it will maximize the amount of happiness. Therefore, the action is good.
