CYSE 406

CYSE 406 (Cyber Law) is one of the Core Courses that I needed to take for the ODU’s Cybersecurity Program. This course tackles two major cyber law subjects. The first part of the course examines various U.S. laws and legal considerations that impact the digital and cyberspace worlds from traditional civil, and to a lesser extent, traditional criminal perspectives. The second part will familiarize cyber operations professionals about the extent of and limitations on their authorities to ensure operations in cyberspace are in compliance with U.S. law, regulations, directives and policies. The course will also introduce students to miscellaneous cybersecurity topics such as the Federal Acquisition Requirements.

This course helped students to gain a broad knowledge of constitutional, civil, criminal, and related legal considerations that arise in the context of work or citizenship in an increasingly cyber/digital world. This broadened awareness helped students to successfully navigate and strengthen personal and professional choices as they move ahead.

Throughout the course, we are assigned weekly discussion boards where we are asked to critically think about the articles that are related to Cyber Law here in the United States. We are also given Writing Assignments for us to analyze different U.S. Cyber Laws to broaden our knowledge.

One of my Writing Assignments is about writing a research background memorandum. In this memorandum, I presented one U.S. cybersecurity law that has significance in strengthening the cybersecurity in the United States which is the Cybersecurity Act of 2015.
